What is The King’s Trust?

The King’s Trust is only a year away from celebrating a milestone occasion, its fiftieth birthday. What is The King’s Trust and what does it do?

In 1976, the then-Prince of Wales founded a new organisation. The United Kingdom was facing high levels of unemployment with young people affected in particular. Charles decided to use the money earned from his time in the Royal Navy to help fund 21 different community initiatives around the UK.

After decades of continual growth and support, several different streams were officially combined to make the Prince’s Trust.

The organisation provides support to 11-30 year olds in the UK who are struggling in school or are unemployed.

The Trust works in several ways, helping to provide education and training to young people, offering grants and financial support, and helping them to build networks. It has helped over 1,000,000 people, many of whom have gone on to find employment and volunteer opportunities.

In November 2023, the Prince’s Trust announced that it would be known as the King’s Trust as of October 2024.

There are also several related organisations, including the King’s Trust Canada, the King’s Trust Australia, and the King’s Trust, Aotearoa, New Zealand.
