Hot on the heels of RdPiano, we’ve got another 80s-inspired freebie as Bogren Digital offers Relab QuantX Essentials 80s-inspired reverb plugin for macOS and Windows for FREE.
This time, it’s QuantX Essentials, a Quantec QRS emulation by Relab Development.
QuantX Essentials is a streamlined version of Relab Development’s flagship QuantX Natural Resonance Reverb.

The Quantec QRS (or Quantec Room Simulator) is a German hardware unit from the early 1980s, and it became famous for a few things: realistic room simulation, a wide range of reverb times (0.1-100 seconds), and a user-friendly workflow.
You can hear the Quantec QRS in action all over The Pogues’ debut album, Red Roses for Me.
Relab Development isn’t the first developer to tackle the Quantec QRS, but they claim to offer the most accurate recreation.
With a next-generation AI-powered framework and meticulous data analysis, Relab Development aims to authentically recreate the character and behaviour of the vintage hardware, as well as the sound.
You can see a sample-to-sample reverb tail decay comparison of the Quantec QRS Vs. the plugin.

The QuantX Essentials plugin takes the user-friendly workflow to another level with just a handful of controls.
From top to bottom, it starts with the main Reverb Time knob, followed by Predelay, High End, Mix, and space type buttons.
The available spaces are Room, Chamber, Studio, and Club.
The full version has a Room Size parameter, and when tweaked, the max reverb time dynamically adjusts to give the full Quantec experience. Even without the Room Size parameter, QuantX Essentials delivers a varied effect, and it sounds excellent on melodic instrument lines.
The High End control allows you to differentiate the high-frequency reverb time from the regular reverb time. It offers nine multiplier settings from 0.10 to 2.50 and a linear setting (Lin/X1).
You also get a bunch of handcrafted presets for various spaces and instruments.
As a free reverb, it’s fantastic, but I’m not sure how long it will be free, so get it now.

You won’t see the free offer on the Relab Development site, but you’ll find it by heading to the product page at Bogran Digital (regular price €39).
If you like vintage hardware reverb emulations, check out Wave Alchemy’s Magic7 (Bricasti M7 emulation) if you missed it late last year.
QuantX Essentials is available in 64-bit AU, VST3, and AAX formats for macOS (10.15 and higher) and Windows (10 and higher).
Please note that an iLok account is required for activation.
