Developer Boz Digital Labs has released Bark of Dog 3, a free bass enhancer plugin for macOS and Windows.

Bark of Dog is one of the first plugins that Boz Digital Labs ever released, and it quickly put the developer on the map as one to watch. 

Since then, Boz Digital Labs has released lots of excellent plugins, all sharing the same approach: combining advanced functionality with an intuitive and user-friendly interface.

Bark of Dog 3 is the latest version of the popular low-frequency enhancer plugin with a more refined interface and a new Analog mode.

The plugin features Boz Figital’s unique low-frequency filter; you can immediately hear the impact. Without much tweaking, the plugin creates a cleaner low-end, but, more importantly, it ensures your bass hits the right spot.

In addition to stereo and mid/side processing, Bark of Dog 3 has three main operating modes: Class, Passive, and Combo.

Classic mode comes from the original plugin; it’s a resonant high-pass filter that cleans the low-end and boosts the set frequency.

Passive mode is a cool Pultec-inspired feature that allows you to boost and attenuate simultaneously. Passive mode is ideal for more aggressive boosting without residual muddiness.

Combo mode combines Classic and Passive with an additional high-pass filter.

The controls are straightforward: Frequency, Boost, and Gain.

The new Analog function applies subtle distortion that impacts the sound of the filters. A tip from the developer suggests using the Analog function with high boost levels to minimize extreme peaks in the output.

Bark of Dog 3 improves on an already excellent plugin, and in typical Boz Digital fashion, it gets the job done with minimal fuss. It’s ideal if you want to give a lackluster bass guitar some punch or make sure it has a deep, fuller tone, and it’s great for more extreme results, too.
