Not too long ago, we covered the fantastic free Infinite Bass Ableton rack from Abletunes, and today, we will take a closer look at their Retrotape & RVRB Plugin Bundle.

Retrotape

As you might have guessed, Retrotape (normally $69) is a tape emulation plugin. Specifically, it is designed to emulate vintage cassette tapes and decks from the ’80s.

Knowing that a lot of us producers are using a lot of samples and virtual instruments, having a tape emulation on hand is always nice.

It is a great way to add some analog mojo to your productions. Retrotape does exactly that by “replicating tape saturation, distortion, pitch imperfection, and noise.”

You can control parameters like age, tone, dirt, noise, jitter, and more. This gives you a good amount of flexibility with dialling in the effect to your liking.

Retrotape also comes with 45 carefully designed presets to keep you inspired when using it.

RVRB

RVRB (normally $128) is a “modern algorithmic reverb”, designed for both natural and more creative reverbs. It comes with 60+ presets to showcase the sound of the plugin.

This plugin is made to be easy to use while still being a very powerful reverb engine. The GUI looks great, and I’m glad they went with a “dark mode” color, as it is very easy on the eyes.

You’ve got your standard reverb controls, which are decay, size, and dry/wet mix. It also features independent pre and post EQ modules, each with 4 bands and a real-time spectrum analyzer.

Other than those, RVRB gives you control over early reflections, modulation, and a simple one-knob compressor. 

And finally, it has 2 unique “XTRA” controls. Soft Attack is useful for percussive sounds, according to Abletunes, while Tail Control is a kind of ducking control, which can be very handy.

The Bundle

Both Retrotape and RVRB run on 64-bit Windows and macOS machines in VST3 and AU formats. Please note that RVRB doesn’t run natively on Apple Silicon (thanks to BPB reader Steffen for the info)

Note that these plugins aren’t compatible with Pro Tools but will work on most other major DAWs.
