King Charles visit Royal Navy submariners

The King has thanked Royal Navy submariners to thank them for their service after visiting on Thursday.

King Charles visited the homebase of the UK Submarine Service on Thursday, meeting with active submariners, as well as their families and other base staff at Coulport, part of HM Naval Base Clyde in Scotland.

The King was welcomed by First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Ben Key KCB CBE and other senior RN members.

After receiving the Royal Salute, His Majesty was able to meet with serving Royal Navy members working on British submarines to learn more about their experiences.

King Charles was able to visit one of the Vanguard-class submarines,a nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine. He spent time in the Control Room learning about working life on the submarine, and then was also able to see the bunk space and galley for crew members. In the Senior Rates’ Mess, he signed the visitor book.

His Majesty was also able to thank a group of Gold Deterrent Pin holders for their dedication and work. Royal Navy Deterrent Pins are a considerable honour that may be awarded if a submariner has made a significant contribution to the Continuous At Sea Deterrent.

The King served in the Royal Navy on several different missions between 1971 and 1974.
