Developer Klevgrand has released the SyndtSphere v2.0.0 Sound Surfer Synth, which is free to download for macOS and Windows.
Syndtsphere, the Sound Surfer Synth is back and is now in version 2.0.0.
Klevgränd released the original Syndtsphere around seven years ago (roughly), and it took an interesting approach to blending sounds.
Version 2.0.0 features a new resizeable GUI and an added volume slider.

For anyone who doesn’t remember Syndtsphere, it’s a lite version of the fully featured Syndt (available with Klevgränd’s Kanvas Synth and Instrument Bundles).
The freebie features over 70 professionally crafted presets, but the magic is in how you “surf” between them.
Syndtsphere features a globe-like display that you can rotate to morph between presets. It’s almost like setting coordinates, and Syndtsphere pulls sound from every preset within a certain proximity to your location.
The display will show the percentage of each preset shaping your sound; the closer it is, the higher the percentage. It’s a novel way to get the most out of presets, leading to sounds you wouldn’t otherwise create.
The cool thing about this surfing approach is that you have multiple parameters from each preset morphing simultaneously, creating some gorgeous transitions.

Syndtsphere has a ping-pong delay and a small modulation section with pitch bend range, Glide, and Legato controls.
It’s been a good week for free synths; just a few days ago, we had another lovely offering from Full Bucket Music with Paralogy.
Syndtsphere isn’t all about morphing presets and parameters, although that’s where much of the fun is. You can land on some gorgeous hybrid sounds and save the current state if you want some more consistency.
I like the concept behind Syndtsphere. A lot of preset synths with limited controls are overlooked due to the lack of customization.
Syndtsphere offers a nice middle-ground; it has the simplicity of a preset synth but provides more flexibility through its Sound Surfer design.
I particularly like the stabbing sounds with a little bit of delay; those sounds are ideal for funk keys, EDM, hip-hop, etc.
Syndtsphere is available in Au, VST, and AAX formats for macOS (10.10 and higher) and Windows (7 and higher).
An iOS version is available for $1.99.
