Soundtoys PhaseMistress is FREE until November 15th!

Developer Soundtoys has made its PhaseMistress analogue phase shifter plugin free for a limited time.

It’s that time of year again – we’re edging closer to Black Friday, and if history tells us anything, we can assume a wave of massive discounts and freebies is on the way.

Last year, Soundtoys was among the biggest discounters, offering up to 80% off at Plugin Boutique and Little Plate Reverb free for a limited time.

Twelve months later, the popular developer kicks things off with another limited-time freebie: PhaseMistress (usually $99).

To claim the free plugin, sign up for the Soundtoys mailing list, and you should receive an activation code within a few minutes (I got it in two minutes, but potentially up to 24 hours). The offer ends on November 15, 2024.

PhaseMistress is an analogue-style phase shifter plugin that emulates classic hardware phasers.

As confessed phaser-hoarders, the team at Soundtoys has put together a stellar collection of legendary phasers, including the Boss Super Phaser, Phase 90, Moogerfooger 12-stage, Small Tone, and more.

The handful of hardware examples above boasts a star-studded lineup of notable users, from Jimi Hendrix to Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood.

PhaseMistress features 69 preset styles that alter the phaser’s internal structure. These presets range from subtle two-stage phasing to 24-stage experimental/psychedelic carnage.

The interface is typical of Soundtoys: it’s relatively simple and offers additional controls if you need to explore more.

The main GUI view shows the basic Mix, Frequency, Resonance, and Modulation parameters, which go a long way toward creating a unique phaser effect. But, with the drop-down extended view, you can further fine-tune these parameters.

PhaseMistress is a versatile phaser effect that goes beyond emulating the classics. The plugin offers various LFO shapes along with a custom Shape Editor. You also get various modulation modes, including Rhythm, Random, Envelope, and Step.

Step mode produces an edgier effect rather than the typical sweeping effect. In Envelope mode, the plugin responds to the dynamics of the incoming audio, which is perfect for funky rhymic effects.

If you want to get even more rhythmic, you can use the custom Rhythm Editor in Rhythm mode.

As a keyboardist, I love the Moogerfooger effect on synths, à la Mike Dean. I’m a fan of phaser effects that bring sounds to life with complex but musical movements, like Minimal Audio’s Ripple Phaser, and I’m delighted to add PhaserMistress to my arsenal.

PhaseMistress is available in 64-bit AU, VST2, VST3, and AAX formats for macOS (10.12 or higher) and Windows (Win7 or higher).
