The future queen who’s heading down under to begin her university career

Princess Ingrid Alexandra is heading down under! The future queen just announced that she has enrolled in the University of Sydney in Australia for a three-year bachelor’s degree.

The future queen of Norway will read for a social sciences degree in international relations and political economy at the storied Australian educational institution, ranked first in Australian universities and 18th overall in the world.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra will move to Sydney in August and live on campus throughout her studies. The Norwegian Royal Court shared that Princess Ingrid Alexandra is looking forward to concentrating on her studies over the next three years.

With a focused degree on international relations and political economy, the future queen will learn about “the international political and economic system” through the former and “the relationships between the economy, society and political interests,” with the latter.

In an email to NRK, the Norwegian state broadcaster, the University of Sydney’s vice president revealed that the school is “very pleased” with a future queen enrolling there.

“We…look forward to welcoming her and helping her settle into university life and studies. We know how valuable this experience is, and we hope the princess gets the most out of our beautiful surroundings, clubs and local communities, as well as our proximity to the best Sydney has to offer,” said Vice President Kirsten Andrews.

When she arrives in Australia, Princess Ingrid Alexandra will be following in her mother’s footsteps: as a high school student, Crown Princess Mette-Marit participated in a six-month exchange programme with Wangaratta High School in North East Victoria.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra graduated from the Elvebakken Upper Secondary School in 2023 and recently completed a 15-month stint with the Engineer Battalion in the Målselv municipality where she worked as a gunner on a CV90 STING vehicle. She was discharged in early April and later participated in her first state visit when the President of Iceland paid a visit to Norway.

While the future queen of Norway heads down under for her post-secondary education, Princess Elisabeth made headlines as her educational future is now up in the air. The US President recently announced that Harvard, where the future queen of the Belgians has been reading for a Master’s degree in public policy, can no longer admit international students.

The Belgian Royal Court said that the impact of the US President’s decision, “and whether there is any, will only become clearer in the coming days or weeks.”
