The King and Queen of the Belgians are currently stuck several thousand miles from home after plane trouble at the end of a State Visit.

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde had just ended a visit to Chile when it was discovered that the aircraft set to bring them back to Brussels had a technical problem.

After checks, it was found that the plane wouldn’t be ready to take them back until June 29 at theearliest, several days after their visit ended.

The royal party had trouble at the very start of the trip when the plane developed technical issues and their departure from Belgium was delayed.

Arrangements for King Philippe and Queen Mathilde to travel back on a commercial flight were looked into but the couple decided to stay with the delegation in Chile and travel back with them once the place is ready.

It’s understood the earliest that will be is on the afternoon of June 29 although the departure might have to be the following day, June 30.
