The first royal wedding of 2025 could produce the most regal guest list of the year even though the celebrations are meant to be low key and private.

Prince Nikolaus of Greece, now also known as Nikolaus de Grece, will marry Chrysi Vardinogianni on February 7th 2025 in Athens.

The couple only recently confirmed they were together and their engagement announcement came just days before their nuptials.

Their wedding ceremony will be private but the pews of the Holy Church of Saint Nicholas Ragavas in Athens could be packed with kings and queens.

Prince Nikolaus’ mother, Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, is a definite on the guest list. Anne-Marie was the last Queen of Greece. Her husband, King Constantine II, who died in 2023, lost his throne after a military coup and a referendum that confirmed the end of the monarchy in Greece.

Constantine’s sister, Queen Sofia of Spain, is also expected at the celebration. There is also a possibility that Sofia’s son, King Felipe VI, could attend – he is a cousin of the groom and was at the celebrations for the wedding of Nikolaus’ sister, Princess Theodora, in 2024. King Felipe’s wife, Queen Letizia, is another potential guest.

On the maternal side of his family tree, Prince Nikolaus counts Europe’s newest monarch as a cousin. King Frederik X of Denmark is the son of Anne-Marie’s older sister, Queen Margrethe.

As January 2025 wound to a close, Prince Nikolaus and Chrysi Vardinogianni were spotted entering the Amalienborg Palace where they spent time with King Frederik and his wife, Queen Mary. It’s increased speculation that Denmark’s king and queen could be in Athens for this first royal wedding of the year.
